Zamość is located in southeastern Poland, Lublin County.
The plot of the city of Zamość was laid down through a decree from the chancellor and field lord Jan Zamoyski in 1580. The city was planned as Jan Zamoyski’s (1542-1605) family property, a good for him, his friends and the surrounding area, a fortress intended to protect Poland's eastern border, and finally as a center for arts and sciences.
