Location and history

Łódź is located in central Poland, 137 km southwest of Warsaw.
The first known records of Łódź are dated 1332. In 1423, the city was granted market town rights by King Władysław Jagiełło. In the beginning, the town developed favorably, but from the 17th century. the city stood quite still until industrial development – not least the textile industry – gained momentum from the beginning of the 19th century.
